In this all-new novella from the New York Times bestselling author of Midnight Marked, Merit, Ethan, and the rest of Cadogan House crew discover that not all undead creatures are kindred spirits…

Vampires generally aren’t afraid of things that go bump in the night, but Merit and Ethan are extra jumpy after a recent attack by a dark sorcerer. So when they learn that someone is messing with graves in Chicago’s cemeteries, stealing skulls and snatching souls, they fear that their powerful foe might be back for even more magical vengeance.

But after a specter begins haunting Cadogan House—and targeting vampires—they realize that they're being taunted by an altogether different sort of monster. A ghoulish villain straight out of the Windy City’s urban legends is on the prowl—and he won’t stop until he’s killed again...

Includes a sneak peek of Blade Bound, the epic final novel in the New York Times bestselling Chicagoland Vampires series.

This was a great little side tangent to the regular series, and offered a more intimate glimpse into Merit & Ethan's romantic life than what we tend to get in the full-length books. PHANTOM KISS opens with Meredith throwing the happy couple a bridal shower which was a hoot because 1- We all know how much the Sentinel *loves* shindigs—one of the reasons why Sullivan appointed her as the House's social chair—haha! And, 2- Some of her uppity family is still peeved about her being a vampire. So, naturally, drama-drama-drama!

The story then takes on a heavier tone with its ghost plot line, and the potential for the final big bad to make an appearance. I enjoyed the historical aspects of this short; Chloe Neill is a pro at incorporating all things Chicago into her novels, and in this one we get some of Capone & O'Banion's henchmen engaged in a ghostly turf war. Ok, kinda, not really, but if I told you who's at the heart of this mystery I'd be giving away the punchline. Annabelle, the necromancer, was also in attendance, so I was happy to see her again, and the CPAN (Chicago Paranormal Action Network) folks were stereotypical however, they did force Cadogan House's Master to give Luc permission to add some new gadgets to his arsenal which was cute.

PHANTOM KISS was one of the better novellas that I've read in recent months. It included most of the characters that CHICAGOLAND VAMPIRES fans just can't get enough of, didn't contain anything vital to make it a one-click must, but it was a value add that few will want to miss, and of course, the sneak peek at the last installment will ensure that you are counting down the days until April 25th if you haven't started doing so already. ~4.5 Stars

Phantom Kiss Chicagoland Vampires edition by Chloe Neill Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

This is one of my ALL time favorite series, which is coming to an end with the next book. So I guess I had high hopes for this novella but I was admittedly disappointed. I am normally a very greedy reader and given that this is a short book I expected to fly through it but I didn't. I'm so glad I read it because I love Ethan and Merit and the rest of the gang but maybe my expectations were too high. Plus there were typos and that annoyed me in a book I paid for and didn't borrow. Regardless I am so looking forward to the next and (last ( ) book in the series, which I am sure will live up to all the rest of the books in this TOTALLY AMAZING series!!
Merit and Ethan are dealing was something a little different this time around when they discover Cadogan House is being haunted by a ghost. The Master and Sentinel have their work cut out for them as they try to discover who is haunting them, and why, as well as navigate the fields of prewedded bliss.

Phantom Kiss is a nice in-between novella before we get to the finale of this series. One of the things I liked best was that it reminds readers where we're coming from after Midnight Marked and hints at where we'll be starting out in Blade Bound.

I thought the haunting was particularly great idea. I kind of wish this could have been utilized in a full-length book as opposed to being constricted to a novella. I loved the history that ghosts typically represent, and the history of Chicago is so interesting. I would have liked it expanded upon for sure.

I always find novellas fun to read. They're short and sweet and typically not weighed down with as many impending storylines as the main full-length books; they can just be. Plus, it's never a hardship to revisit some of my favorite characters. Phantom Kiss does get me excited for the next book, despite the fact that it's the end of the series.
Chronologically, Phantom Kiss is the novella that bridges the gap between Midnight Marked and Blade Bound, the last book in the series. How is this series so close to being done? Guys, I'm not ready for it to be over! I love Ethan and Merit and the gang so much!

Ethan and Merit are preparing for their wedding when Annabelle, their friendly neighborhood necromancer, calls them to investigate a weird grave robbery. Soon they find Cadogan House has become a haunted house and they have to figure out how to get rid of a ghost who doesn't want to be gotten rid of.

I enjoyed the hell out of this story! It was the perfect length to give us a Chicagoland fix while waiting for the last book. This novella is a nice addition to the series but isn't essential to the overall arc of the series (To my knowledge anyway! I haven't read the last book.) And it was fun while expanding the world a bit past the vampires and shifters we've become accustomed to in the series.

I loved the ghost story angle and that we got to see more of Annabelle! She's quickly becoming one of my favorite characters in the series and I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that she'll get a novella or a book of her own. It was fun reading about Merit and Ethan having to learn how to fight a ghost and I loved seeing another side of the supernatural in this world. The plot progression is well done with surprising little twists along the way with a conclusion that was great while keeping the humor and snark we've come to expect in the series.

Overall, I loved it and I'd recommend reading it if you're a fan of the series. It'll help a bit with the wait for Blade Bound.

It has been 11 months since the release of the series' last major novel, Midnight Marked, and it will be three more months (April 2017) before the release of the final entry in the series, Blade Bound.

The story is well written, albeit a few editing errors are present. And, like most short stories, it contains little character growth as it covers only a short interval (3 nights) and a single problem (a resurrected ghost).

However, short and simple is sometimes refreshing, and it does serve as a pretty good hook to remind us that the final battle is at hand.
